About the Author and Acknowledgments
Joe Gleason
Joe Gleason is the author of CarePhysics. His work on Genus and the framework grew from caring for his parents, both of whom he lost to dementia, while raising three children. The questions his family encountered became a wider inquiry with families and the people receiving, providing, and improving care.
CarePhysics brings that lived experience into conversation with research and practical design. Its purpose is to help useful knowledge travel: from one encounter to the next, across a team, and into support that people can understand, choose, and use.
With gratitude
To the families, patients, participants, volunteers, nurses, social workers, doctors, researchers, and organizational leaders who have shared questions, experience, and practical wisdom: thank you. Your perspectives have helped shape both the questions and the work. They do not have to be identical to belong in this conversation.
To my family, and to the people who made room for us during difficult days: the attention, patience, and generosity we encountered remain part of this book’s purpose. To everyone reading this draft, thank you for helping us see what is clear, what is missing, and what should change.
Sources and illustrations
Published research, quotations, and named methods are attributed in the notes and Reference Companion. The illustrations and concept diagrams are carried forward from the author’s manuscript and should be read according to their captions. The fictional family is distinct from the author’s own family account; the scenes are not records of a particular service or product deployment.
Final creator and permission credits for the inherited illustrations remain subject to author confirmation before publication. Inclusion of a source, quotation, or named method does not imply endorsement of CarePhysics or Genus.
